HAPPY THANKSGIVING and Relocation for Boston Dogs Org

To owners and dogs alike, Happy Thanksgiving and remember our loved ones and those fighting over-seas. See my personal blog www.echrislyle.com or my FaceBook blog for other Causes we support.

We are volunteering tomorrow at helping the less fortunate to a real Thanksgiving meal.

We are relocating (over the weekend) to a more centralized location on Boylston Street. (Back Bay - Boston) for the convenience of our clients and ourselves in order to offer a wider geographic footprint for services to dogs and owners throughout Beantown. Remember if you can't get to us, we will come to you! No feeding dogs from the table; I guess tomorrow is an exception!

Have a dog related Tattoo? have a pictture of your dog? Having trouble controlling your dog even on a leach?

Give us a call or email clyle@boston-dogs.com and we can instruct you on the leashes that best match whatever beharvioral or psychological issues you are dealing with. You'll notice an instant, better response with a leash/lead that is more effective - no they are choke chains - but we do make FREE individualized reccomendations. Make sure you are the pack leader and not the one running behind trying to keep up or mustering all your strength to keep your canine under control.  eventually you'll be able to walk them without a leash at all! And a dog can learn these things at ANY age. The age old idiom, "old dogs can't learn new tricks," if entirely a crock of sh*t..lol.

At minimum - if you are visiting your site you must probably own or love dogs so PLEASE post a picture of your dog and or yourself to increase our membership for a great cause.  Any further you assist with is all tax dedectable.  We are always looking for additional help; paid and unpaid opportunities!  Email info@boston-dogs.com and visit boston-dogs.org  WOOF WOOF!

We are also taking a survey to see how many people have tattooes relating to their dogs. We would love to hear about or see those as well! Happy Ink.

Cesar said It... "If you could do only one thing for your dog"

QUESTION:
"What is the most important thing to do for your dog?"
ANSWER:
"Take your dog on a 45-minute power walk every morning. BUT, you must use the proper method in walking your dog – when leaving the house, make sure you always walk out the door ahead of your dog to demonstrate who is the leader, and make sure the dog is not in front of you on the walk". -- Cesar Millan

Its pretty simple - we offer as non-profit 501(c)(3) the cheapest rate in Boston (for all our services and including some that no-one even offers,) but walks are only $12 allowing everyone to have their dog at the happiest and healthiest. Plus we leave you a note and/or email described the dog's behavior and improvements or general idea of the event, so you always know what is happening with your dog. That is why we come so highly recommended and have plenty of references!

A Quote from the Dog Whisper and Ramifications

"[Cesar] counsels people to calmly, assertively, and consistently give their dogs rules, boundaries, and limitations to establish themselves as solid pack leaders and to help correct and control unwanted behavior. [He] doesn't believe in "quick fixes." Though changing some behaviors can appear to happen in a relatively short period of time, none of those changes will "stick" unless the human acts consistently with his or her dog every day to keep unwanted behaviors from returning. In Cesar's opinion, no one should ever hit or yell at a dog to correct unwanted behavior." - Cesar Millan

I have taken the liberty to insert bold and italics in the above.  If I personally see people hitting or yelling at their dog, I will correct their actions, calmly and assertively, and if needed, elevate the issue to the MSPCA law enforcement division and/or Boston Police Department (or the guys from "Rescue Ink.") These actions are a crime under Massachusetts General Law(s). They carry a maximum of five years in state prison. We are personally working against one dog walker, someone entrusted with another person's pet, to care for them and not hurt them at minimum. This will be stopped. As evidence in the quote above, it requires that "the human acts consistently," in this case pursuing justice for a dog that cannot advocate for himself.

Helping Us, Dogs, Others; and Yourself

This statement is going out through several channels and I wanted it to accessible to our readers/clients/commnity:

"Just founded a 501(c)(3) non-profit that is unique and aimed at dogs well being/advocacy and owner/public education and looking for more advise as well as possibly an additional Board member or two.
I come from and currently still am a highly successful sales/marketing/management person in the private sector and an entrepreneur. I do have an academic background in policy/law/etc, but would like some guidance on gaining exposure through channels that are not available in the private sector (and I am therefore less familiar with,) as well as if appropriate connecting directly with organizations with a similiar Mission Statement (even linking to each-others site very helpful if applicable.) Also general best practices would be helpful. I have a partial board already composed and are already generating revenues = donations and we are linked to give back proceeds to four other non profits (see our site www.boston-dogs.com ,) We also would love volunteers whether in metro-Boston or globally. We are migrating the "incorporation process" as well currently. Please contact me if you can help, give guidance, donate, or just want to send a friendly note. Obviously we are not asking for any time commitment and would be grateful for whatever you can share. Thank You - Christopher Lyle" clyle@boston-dogs.com or info@boston-dogs.com

tied up in the house and need to get some energy of the dog(s)

Then untie a rope for some -- Tug-o-war
wherther dog versus dog OR dog versus human
Its a great way to get some anxious energy out that might turn into something else getting torn up or an unruly pet
Do be careful not to tug hard in one motion as it can effect the dog's teeth. Especially if the dog has yet to go through teething and baby teeth can come out prematurely more easily then permanent teeth (usually between months 3-6.) And for a concerned owner, often you won't see any of the dog's baby teeth fall out and puppys actually end swallowing most of them, which is not harmful at all.

Happy Tugging - you just might get a shoulders and triceps work-out in during the process!

Shelter and Animal Healthcare Closings

Massachusetts State budget (in the infinite wisdom of the Patrick Administration - we do try to stay non-political here,) is closing all but two animal shelters throughout the State. It is a disgrace.  Though on a positive front - through Private funding - Angell Memorial has received only the 2nd throughout the country, an MRI machine specifically for animals at the hospital. So donations are crucial. You can directly donate through our site or contact the MSPCA directly - all donation are tax deductible. If you do have monetary ability to donate in this economy, many groups, including Animal Friends Humane Society - TV's "Dog Town" accepts tax deductible donations of a litany of items such as old cars, etc.  Further the MSPCA in Boston (JP) will issue a tax dedection credit for many items they are in need of such as GPS devices, 800mhz radios, bullet-proof vests, (Yes the jobs of an MSPCA officer are dangerous,) and other such items viewable on their website which you can click on to the left on this screen. Thank You.

Rain, Rain Go Away...

This will postpone training sessions and hopefully Sunday we will be able to get back on course and may do some swimming in the Charles if we head other to Back Bay. Who is in - weather pending...

Holiday Donations and how to Confront Cruelty to Animals

When you are thinking about donating this year, please do not forget about the dogs and animals and donate directly to one of our funded organizations.  We are also now implementing several corporate sponsors that will be offering discounts to anyone who donates to our charities or is a member/follower of www.Boston-Dogs.com  There are direct links on our site that will bring you to those charities with one click of your mouse and they will also send you a form stating your tax-deduction for your generosity.

We are also, as a result of a need more than a plan, entering the realm of stopping ANIMAL CRUELTY http://www.dosomething.org/tipsandtools/11-facts-about-animal-cruelty head-on as we see it occurring in our City. Please don't be blind to this as animals cannot defend themselves or speak for themselves so feel free to contact us (anonymously if you like) or the police. Even "dog-walkers can be cruel," we are coming for you.

A Dog's Life

As Sunday night approaches, we, as humans, get that tiny knot in our stomach about the start of another work week and five long days until our next break. Dogs, its just another day (night.) No worries. No deadlines. No quotas. No meetings. No TPS Reports. You get the point. What a life our four-legged friends have. But many dogs are not as lucky as ours. That's is why we volunteer our time, donate our money, and give a portion of every dollar to one of the listed dog shelters and advocacy groups listed on our website (on a rotational basis.) So that way more dogs have a chance at living the life a dog was meant to have.

Our New Adoptee - Meryl - from TV's Dog Town

Why does she always have such a worried look on her face? Partly, it's just a cute face! Meryl can't help having that expression. But she's also a dog who's known some real heartache.  Dog Town
Meryl is one of the fighting dogs rescued from the property of former NFL quarterback, Michael Vick. Her life had been loveless; she had only been used for what her teeth could do. And when she was rescued, she wasn't deemed safe for a home. She was court ordered to live at Best Friends, instead. And now the goal is to give this precious dog the fullest life imaginable for her...
Best Friends dog trainer Ann Allums is working one-on-one with Meryl to teach her not to lash out in fear. Confidence is the key. Meryl needs to learn that people might be approaching her for a brand new reason - not because they want her to fight, but because they want to be her friend. Meryl is a playful dog who enjoys people once she gets to know them.

Enjoy the Sun with your Dog Today

Today is a wonderful afternoon to enjoy a brisk walk with "(wo)mans best friend." We do like to be politically correct for our many female dog lovers. So throw on the NorthFace and get our there. We just came back from an hour with one of our clients. Beautiful!

Also we invite client and industry accredited individuals to Post along with us and follow in realtime via our multiple RSS feeds.

Winter Weather and Sunlight and Basic Care

Dogs, like humans, enjoy and thrive in sunlight and will become lethargic and possibly melancholy or even depressed with less sunlight exposure daily. As an owner or handler it is important to get dogs out to exercise the same if not more during sunlight hours and for the same amount of time, regardless of the cold. Larger breeds often have an inner and outer coat and will grow additional winter insulation. The inner coat is specific to the warm of the dog, the outer coat is composed of longer, coarser hair that contains naturally produced oils that give the dog water and wind proofing; some breeds are completely comfortable even lying directly in snow with no effect on the internal temperature. Smaller breeds are more susceptible to the cold and often need a "doggie" jacket or coat to keep them warm. But again, maintaining exercise and exposure to sunlight in key to your dogs physical and mental health. Dogs get "cabin fever" in the same way humans to be cooped up inside. So get out there and bare the elements - you will both be better for it. We as a service provider to dogs can help you with walking if needed. Just give us a shout or if you have questions feel free to contact me directly of send and email to info@boston-dogs.com and follow us on Twitter at for daily tips and updates at www.twitter.com/bostoniandogs  Grooming, specifically washing your dog is not advised during the winter as it strips their coats of essential oils that do provide waterproofing, wind resistance, and cold tolerance. My Chocolate Labrador Retriever is in perfect health and smells great and has not been washed in several years if that is any indication.

With the holidays approaching, some Dogs may have to be kenneled as a result of human travel to visit family and friends. Consult you Vet. for or myself for reputable boarding accommodations as "kennel cough" and other contagious infections can be easily transmitted in a confined area, often with recycled air. Boston Dogs provides a healthy alternative to a kennel. We do in-house visits based on your needs 2 to 3 times daily to walk/feed/water/and socialize with your best friend without removing him/her from their home environment and being kept in a small cage for a majority of the day. Boston-Dogs.com has resources and relationships with many other organizations that can step in to help as well. Your Dogs health and happiness are paramount when you are out-of-town. We are already filling up fast for the Thanksgiving holiday, so contact us promptly.

Often in winter conditions, as they approach the paws are most susceptible to cuts and wear-n-tear do to ice and frozen snow pack. An brief post-walk or jog inspection will illuminate and potential first aid needs that dont require a costly Vet. visit. Feel to contact us for a remedy and more cost effective, brief, in-house evaluation. Dogs are more resilent to pain than the humans and will often not so signs of pain, so watch for changes in their gate or favoring specific limbs.

Welcome to Boston-Dogs

What we do - Beginner and advanced training, individualized, no Group Classes. Less expense then any Group learning environment or individual training with Service Dog Certification accreditation and several others. ($40)

We walk Dogs in the Back Bay, South End, Beacon Hill, Seaport, and South Boston. ($12)

We will Board dogs in your house or ours. ($TBD based on length)

This is a passion more than a business.

We know Dogs. We have certified numerous Service Dogs (the most difficult standards apply.)

We train regular Pets (Dogs only.)

We have multiple certifications including an upcoming "Cesar Millan Dog Whisper certification"

We don't outsource any part of our business to people just looking for a job.

We limit, to available and receptive, the amount of Dogs we train at anyone time - Dogs must be spayed/neutered and current on shots.

We are well versed Veterinarian and "Doggy Day-Care" recommendations and supplements to confront ANY issue, presciptions via your Vet and supplements other the counter.

We train YOU and educate you with daily notes and/or emails as to each Dog's individual progress.

We are volunteers and members of the Animal Rescue League of Boston, the MSPCA, and Buddy Dog.

Any questions we cannot answer, we will find you one.

We are networked with other "walker only" dog businesses who refer their client here for training.

We have multiple referrals available.

We can train Dogs of ANY age - the adage only dogs can't learn new tricks - entirely untrue.
